Family Requests

Connect with relatives who are already on A2Me — send a request, set how you're related, and link together in the family tree.

What are Family Requests?

A family request is how you connect with a relative who already has an A2Me account. You send them a request and specify how you're related — for example parent, sibling, or cousin. Once they accept, the two of you are linked together in the family tree.

You can review and manage both your incoming and outgoing requests at any time. That means you always have a clear view of who you've reached out to, who has reached out to you, and which requests are still pending.

Family requests are distinct from invitations. A request connects you with someone already on A2Me, while an invitation brings a brand-new person onto the platform. If the relative you want to link with isn't on A2Me yet, invite them first.

Why It Matters

Families are spread out, and relatives often join A2Me at different times. When someone you're related to is already on the platform, you shouldn't have to re-invite them or start from scratch — you just need a simple way to confirm the connection.

Family requests make that connection deliberate and accurate. Because you choose the relationship when you send the request, and the other person accepts it, both sides agree on how you're linked. The result is a family tree that reflects real relationships, built from connections everyone has confirmed.

Example Usage

Scenario: Maria joins A2Me and discovers that her cousin Daniel is already an active member.

Maria finds Daniel on A2Me and sends him a family request, choosing "cousin" as their relationship. Daniel sees the incoming request, reviews it, and accepts.

As soon as he accepts, the two of them are connected and Daniel appears in Maria's family tree — and Maria appears in his — as cousins.

Later, Maria checks her outgoing requests and sees that one she sent to another relative is still pending, so she follows up. Her aunt, who isn't on A2Me yet, can't be reached with a family request, so Maria sends her an invitation instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a family request?

A family request is how you connect with a relative who is already on A2Me. You send them a request, specify how you're related, and once they accept, the two of you are linked together in the family tree.

How is a family request different from an invitation?

A family request connects you with a relative who already has an A2Me account. An invitation, by contrast, brings someone new to A2Me who isn't on the platform yet. Use a request to link with existing members, and an invitation to add new people.

Do I set the relationship when sending a request?

Yes. When you send a family request, you choose how you're related to that person — for example parent, sibling, or cousin. This is what places both of you correctly in the family tree once the request is accepted.

Can I manage my pending requests?

Yes. You can review and manage both incoming and outgoing requests at any time. This lets you see who you've sent requests to, who has sent requests to you, and act on anything that's still pending.

What happens when someone accepts my request?

Once the other person accepts, the two of you are connected on A2Me and appear in each other's family tree according to the relationship you specified. From there you're linked together as family.

What if the person I want to connect with isn't on A2Me yet?

Family requests only work with relatives who already have an A2Me account. If the person you want to connect with isn't on A2Me yet, send them an invitation instead to bring them onto the platform first.
