Family Tree

See how everyone in your family is connected — visually mapped and automatically calculated.

What is the A2Me Family Tree?

The A2Me Family Tree is a visual representation of your family relationships. It uses a Neo4j graph database to store connections between family members and automatically calculate how everyone is related. When you add a new family member, the system determines their relationship to every other person in your tree.

Unlike static family tree tools, the A2Me Family Tree is a living, connected network. Each node in the tree is a real A2Me account (or a legacy/managed account), meaning family members can interact, share, and stay connected through the platform.

The tree supports multiple relationship types including parent-child, partner/spouse, and sibling connections. From these base relationships, extended kinship paths like "cousin," "aunt," or "great-grandparent" are calculated automatically.

Why It Matters

Many families lose track of extended family connections over generations. Children grow up without knowing who their second cousins are, or how they're related to people at family gatherings. Traditional family trees are static documents that quickly become outdated.

A2Me solves this by making the family tree a dynamic, self-updating structure. As family members join and add relationships, the tree grows. Children with managed accounts can explore their heritage. Legacy accounts ensure deceased family members are never forgotten.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Create your profile

Sign up for A2Me and complete your profile. You become the first node in your family tree.

  2. 2

    Add family members

Invite family members or create managed/legacy accounts. Define how each person is related to you (parent, child, sibling, or partner).

  3. 3

    Relationships calculate automatically

The system uses graph traversal to determine how every member relates to every other member. For example, it will display "Sarah is your cousin" or "Marcus is your uncle."

  4. 4

    Explore and interact

Browse the visual tree, tap on any member to view their profile, send messages, or see shared memories. As more family joins, the tree expands.

Example Usage

Scenario: The Johnson family reunion is coming up. Grandma Rose has 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren scattered across three states.

Grandma Rose's daughter Maria sets up the family on A2Me. She adds Rose as the matriarch, connects her siblings as Rose's children, then adds her own children. Each sibling logs in and adds their own families. Within a week, the entire extended family is mapped.

Now 8-year-old Jayden (on a managed account) can open the tree and see that the girl he met at the reunion, Sofia, is actually his second cousin. He can also see Grandpa Earl's legacy account with photos and stories, even though Earl passed before Jayden was born.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does A2Me calculate family relationships?

A2Me uses a Neo4j graph database to store and calculate family relationships. When you add family members and define their relationship to you (parent, child, sibling, partner), the system automatically calculates extended relationships like cousin, aunt, uncle, or grandparent through kinship path traversal.

Can I add deceased family members to the tree?

Yes. A2Me supports Legacy Accounts for deceased family members. These memorial profiles preserve their place in the family tree and allow living family members to add memories, photos, and stories to their profile.

What relationship types does the family tree support?

The family tree supports parent-of, child-of, partner (spouse/partner), and sibling relationships. From these base relationships, the system calculates extended connections like grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

How do managed accounts work for children?

Parents can create managed accounts for children under their control. Managed accounts have restricted access appropriate for younger family members, and parents can monitor and control their activity. Children's profiles appear in the family tree like any other member.

Can multiple families connect through the tree?

Yes. When two A2Me users with separate family trees establish a partner relationship, their trees merge visually, allowing both families to see the full extended family network. Each family maintains control of their own members and privacy settings.

Is the family tree visible to people outside my family?

No. The family tree is private to your family network. Only connected family members can see the tree and the relationships within it. Individual profiles have separate privacy controls for what information is visible.
