Messaging
Private conversations with family — 1-on-1 or in groups, with photos, videos, and real-time delivery.
What is A2Me Messaging?
A2Me Messaging is a private communication feature that allows family members to have 1-on-1 conversations or group chats. Messages are delivered in real time and support text, photos, videos, and link sharing.
Unlike public social media messaging that mixes family conversations with co-workers, advertisers, and strangers, A2Me Messaging is exclusively for your family network. You can only message people you're connected to, keeping conversations safe and focused.
Messages integrate with the rest of the A2Me platform. You can start a conversation from the family tree, share posts directly to a chat, or coordinate event details through group messages. Unread count badges keep you informed of new messages without interrupting your activity.
Why It Matters
Family conversations get scattered across SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and email. Different family members use different platforms, making it impossible to have everyone in one place. Group texts get noisy and important messages get buried.
A2Me Messaging provides one dedicated place for family communication. Since everyone on A2Me is already connected through the family network, there's no need to manage contact lists or phone numbers. Start a conversation with anyone in your tree with one tap.
How It Works
- 1
Start a conversation
Open the Messages section, tap a family member's name, or start a conversation from their profile or the family tree. Create a group by selecting multiple members.
- 2
Send messages and media
Type text messages, attach photos or videos from your gallery, or share links. Messages are delivered in real time to all participants.
- 3
Stay notified
Receive push notifications for new messages when the app is closed. Unread badges show how many conversations have new messages.
- 4
Organize conversations
All conversations are listed in the Messages section. Switch between 1-on-1 and group chats. Conversations persist indefinitely as a record of family communication.
Example Usage
Scenario: The Chen family is planning a surprise party for Dad's 50th birthday.
Mom creates a group chat with the three siblings: "Dad's 50th Planning." They share venue options (with links that preview), photos of decoration ideas, and coordinate who's bringing what. Dad isn't in the group, so the surprise stays safe.
Meanwhile, Mom messages Aunt Lisa directly to ask if she can fly in for the party. Lisa sends back a video of her excitedly confirming she booked her flight.
After the party, the planning group naturally becomes a space to share party photos and relive the surprise. The conversation history serves as a fun record of how they pulled it off.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does A2Me messaging support group conversations?
Yes. A2Me supports both private 1-on-1 conversations and group messaging. Group chats allow multiple family members to communicate in a shared thread, useful for planning events or staying in touch with specific family groups.
What can I share in messages?
You can share text messages, photos, videos, and links. Media can be sent from your device gallery or captured directly. Links generate previews showing the destination page's title and description.
Are messages delivered in real time?
Yes. A2Me messaging uses real-time delivery. Messages appear instantly for both sender and recipient when both are online. When a recipient is offline, they receive a push notification and see the message when they next open the app.
How do unread message badges work?
Unread messages are counted and displayed as badges on the messaging icon. Each conversation with unread messages shows an individual count. Opening a conversation marks all messages in it as read.
Is messaging limited to family connections?
Yes. You can only message people you're connected to on A2Me (family members and accepted connections). This keeps messaging safe and prevents unwanted contact from strangers.
Can I message someone from their profile or the family tree?
Yes. You can start a conversation from a family member's profile page or directly from the family tree view. Tapping the message icon on any connected member's profile opens a direct conversation with them.
