Journals
Long-form writing for the stories that deserve more than a post — recipes, travel logs, family history, and personal reflections.
What are A2Me Journals?
A2Me Journals are long-form rich-text entries for family stories and personal writing. While posts on the feed are designed for quick updates and photos, journals are for content that deserves more space — detailed family recipes, travel narratives, legacy stories about grandparents, or personal reflections.
Each journal entry supports rich-text formatting, embedded photos, and categorization. Entries are organized into categories like Family, Personal, Travel, Recipes, and Legacy, making them easy to browse and find later.
Journals have granular visibility controls. Public entries are accessible to anyone and generate Open Graph meta tags for social sharing previews. Family-only entries are visible to connected family members. Private entries serve as a personal diary visible only to the author.
Why It Matters
Social media feeds are ephemeral — posts scroll away and become hard to find. Important family content like Grandma's pie recipe, the story of how your parents met, or a detailed travel journal from a family reunion deserves a permanent, organized home.
A2Me Journals give families a place for meaningful long-form content that's categorized, searchable, and preserved. Unlike a blog or social post, journals can be family-private or public, and they integrate with the rest of A2Me's memory preservation features.
How It Works
- 1
Create a new journal entry
Open the Journals section and start a new entry. Choose a title, category (Family, Personal, Travel, Recipes, Legacy, etc.), and visibility level.
- 2
Write with rich formatting
Use the rich-text editor to format your entry with headings, bold, italic, lists, and embedded photos. Write as much as you need — there's no character limit.
- 3
Set visibility and publish
Choose Public (anyone can read), Family-only (connected members), or Private (just you). Optionally share to your family feed for immediate visibility.
- 4
Share and preserve
Public entries get their own URL with Open Graph previews for social sharing. All entries are permanently stored and browsable by category.
Example Usage
Scenario: Maria wants to preserve her grandmother's recipes before they're forgotten.
Maria creates a journal entry in the "Recipes" category titled "Abuela's Tamales — The Real Recipe." She writes out the full recipe with detailed instructions, includes photos of each step she took the last time Abuela taught her, and adds personal notes about variations for different fillings.
She sets it to "Family-only" visibility so cousins can access it. She also enables "Share to feed" so everyone sees the new entry. Her cousin Carlos comments that he remembers Abuela adding a secret ingredient — Maria updates the entry.
Over the next few months, Maria adds 15 more recipe entries. The family now has a permanent, searchable cookbook of their grandmother's dishes, categorized and preserved forever.
Frequently Asked Questions
What categories can I organize journals into?
A2Me Journals support categories including Family, Personal, Travel, Recipes, Legacy, and more. Categories help you organize entries and make them easier to find later. You can browse your own or family members' public journals by category.
Who can see my journal entries?
Each journal entry has its own visibility setting. Public entries are visible to anyone and get Open Graph previews when shared on social media. Family-only entries are visible to your connected family members. Private entries are visible only to you.
Can I include photos in journal entries?
Yes. A2Me Journals support rich-text formatting including embedded photos, text formatting (bold, italic, headings), and other media. You can create visually rich entries that combine narrative text with images.
What happens when I share a journal to the feed?
When you enable the "Share to feed" option during creation, a preview of your journal entry appears in your family feed as a post. Family members can click through to read the full entry. This helps family members discover new journal content without actively checking the journals section.
Do public journals show previews on social media?
Yes. Public journal entries generate Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags automatically. When you share the URL on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or iMessage, a rich preview with the title, description, and featured image is displayed.
Can I write a journal entry about a deceased family member?
Yes. The Legacy category is designed for entries about deceased family members. You can write memorial entries, share memories, and preserve stories. These entries can be linked to a Legacy Account if one exists for that family member.
